Doors, doors , doors.

Which door is for me?

Solid core, foam core, composite, uPVC, aluminium, timber. This list goes on!

Simply put, there are so many choices these days as to what you put in your home.

Personally my opinion is your front door is the first thing someone sees. It should make a statement, it should be something to be proud of but most of all it's usually the first line of defence against potential burglars and theives.

In all honesty the majority of doors these days will give you the same sort of multipoint locking systems as each other but where the differences come is with what lies inside of the door and that is where all these terms come from.

Simply put, a uPVC panel door is typical.of what you will see down most streets in the UK, it's the all white mostly solid style doors with a little bit glass. These are known to the the cheapest of doors, comprising quite literally of uPVC and a polystyrene door panel designed to minimise your heat loss.

Then we move on to composite doors and for those, there are 2 main varieties being solid core and foam core.

Foam core as the name suggests is a hard foam core with a 3-4mm resin skin overlay with the colours of your choice all be it limited to the " normal colours ". There is solid strengthening is the main places such as the lock side, hinge side and the top and bottom but in our experience that's about it. These doors look nice, they serve a purpose but with very little in the grand scheme of things between these and the solid core doors pricewise, they seem to be for a select market.

The solid core composite door, seen under such popular brands like solidor are rapidly becoming the UK most popular door and it's easy to see why, you've got a top of the range locking system, coupled with a top of the range door cylinder, in my opinion a more realistic timber graining along with the obviously solid timber core.

By solid timber core we mean laminated timber cross layed over itself for strength. These doors are in fact so strong that when the police come knocking to see those outside the limits of the law, they use a chainsaw to gain access because you couldn't put one through with the old fashioned battering ram.

On the colour note, you have a wider range of colours and in fact, glass patterns. They 100% our most popular product we sell, quite simply because they are beautiful!

If you would like to see what the cost of one of the above doors mentioned would be then please do get in touch, we've a wide range of books to show you along with online designers so you can play with all the options.

All the best

Pete
